Finally, a VP has been chosen by one of the presidential hopefuls. Soon, we’ll go through the agony of another sleepless night with our cell phones in hand waiting on a text message from the other candidate. The senator-once-removed from Illinois has hitched his political wagon to a star from lesser known reaches of the galaxy. I read that the combination of names, “Obama-Biden,” was factored into the choice. Concise bumper stickers. One glance at mine and you’ll know my vice-presidential chances are about as high as Michael Vick becoming director of the SPCA.

The Internet is a Wal-Mart of widely known facts. But when it comes to the Olympics there was obviously a clean-up on aisle three. In looking for the gold I almost missed it in the honey. It seems that gymnasts use Winnie the Pooh’s favorite as a way to get a grip. Yep, you can fly through the air with the greatest of ease but if you want a good landing, you’ll put a little honey on your fingertips.

Some say it’s the depth of the pool. Others say it’s the fit of the Speedo. But most would say these Olympics are a swimming success. World records are dropping like stock options in a Hummer factory. The swim is in! Pity those who didn’t make it into the gene pool. Some Olympians have spent a decade learning how to shoot a pistol at 10 meters and their crowds are second cousins who couldn’t get tickets to the swim finals.
