It had to happen; the times were ripe for a rooftop rift. This week an Indiana man climbed to the top of a convenience store and sang his way into the hearts of customers below, who were spending their life savings pumping enough fuel to finish mowing their side of the chain link fence. He sang an original tune, “Price Gouge’n,” and it was a gas! The customers gave him a standing ovation. The police gave him a complimentary ride to the station (which saved him a couple of dollars in gasoline and cost him a day’s wage at the ethanol plant). Evidently the authorities aren’t fans of American “Idle.”
Analysts say the gas prices may peak shortly. Good thing, the shortly in our pocketbooks is about to peak as well. Someone will try to blame God for all of this. When all else fails, someone will try to pin it on the One who never fails. He is in the middle of it all, however. C. S. Lewis said, “We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade, the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him.” It’s true. He sees the wrinkled wondering. He hears the thoughtless blaming. That is no smirk on His unseen face; it is only the soft smile of a Father who knows His supplies are far greater than our shortages.
“When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied” (Psalm 104:28 NLT).
